Antique wood paneling are those large ornate, inlaid, engraved or carved wooden panels that were once placed on the interior walls of rooms such as libraries and studies for decorative purposes, but mainly to improve thermal insulation and make rooms warmer. Widely used in 17th- and 18th-century France, some of the finest antique woodwork ever made can still be admired today at the Palace of Versailles.
