“The structure of the Versailles floor is dominated by regular patterns, straight lines contrasting with diagonal lines. The juxtaposition of the two directions elaborates a harmonious and very distinctive pattern. The original dimensions of the antique Hungarian parquet squares are 97-103 cm per side. Planks of wood interlaced at 45° angles are bordered by a frame, and the whole composition outlines the structure of the individual quadrotto. The woods used for Versailles inlay are varied and all have very different characteristics. Both warm and cool tones go well with the interweaving of the patterns, and the combination of the different natural grains and shades of the woods–even of different woods–creates a surface rich in color and unexpected color combinations.

Solid oak is a wood with a full-bodied tone that is perfect for antique Versailles flooring, especially if it is derived from reused wood, processed with a rough finish in first patina. In this case, the surface acquires a singular charm conferred by the imperfections that have modified the wood fiber over time. Ideal in all types of furniture thanks to its simplicity, depending on the essence and workmanship Versailles inlay lends itself well to being declined in both rustic and luxury settings. In the latter case, with antique Versailles flooring it is possible to recapture the charm of 17th-century palaces and Italian villas of the following century. A beauty that is austere but made lively by wood, a natural and living material, susceptible to the influences of the environment and those who live in it.”
