“The texture of antique Hungarian parquet is called herringbone precisely because of the geometry that recurs in the pattern of the planks. However, there are other types of herringbone warping: let’s look at them together. Classic herringbone involves the arrangement of the planks to form 90-degree angles, while herringbone laying with a band and batten complements-in the perimeter area of the floor-the field created by the pattern of the planks. The fascia is an element of the wood with a laying geometry varied from the predominant one in the overall design, while the bindel is a connecting element between different laying geometries.

The warping of the planks in antique Hungarian parquet flooring lends great elegance and dynamism to the overall image of the floor. The planks can be made from any wood species, although many tend to tune their preferences to light, bright woods such as larch and oak, which emphasize the plank arrangement in Hungarian herringbone parquet. Larch has a warm, delicate tone, while oak has cooler tones. The wood used can be reclaimed or virgin, in the latter case antiqued with treatments such as drying, seasoning and special finishing.
